There Is A Better Way

Thousands of us signed petitions saying we would love a bike path through the ComEd greenways. And when we signed up, there was never an intention to go through the neighborhoods or even down Route 53 with the proposed East Branch DuPage River (bike) Trail (EBDRT). So why the change in direction?
One theory spoken by a former DuPage County Board member is that in return for access, ComEd had a request that the Board President was unwilling to grant. Through responses to our calls and letters, it has been established that the EBDRT Steering Committee has no say in the final alignment. In the interim, unelected County planners have pushed forward with two unpopular alignments. One of our neighbors has an education in civil engineering plus experience in working with ComEd. He has proposed a viable new route closer to the original plan. This is Bike 53 Preferred Plan >

Bike 53 is working to get this alignment in front of as many key members of the DuPage County board as we can. Sid Kenyon, AICP, Senior Transportation Planner, DuPage County DOT, has reiterated ComEd’s resistance to using their right of way but recommends additional political pressure could help. Funding for the engineering study is arriving around November 8, so we have a little time to change the County Board members’ minds.
PLEASE SPEAK OUT NOW!We need your help to dial up the pressure. One way is to call Chris Snyder, Director of Transportation/County Engineer at DuPage County, who is the chief architect of the trail alignment through the neighborhoods. Call Chris at: 1-630-407-6910.
Let’s demonstrate to DuPage County we are united in influencing a better way.
